Page County Democrats Monthly Meetings:

Page County Dems meet the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the REC Center (630 W. Main Street in Luray). Any deviation from this schedule will be announced at least a week before the monthly meeting. Please join us on Wednesday, September 2 at 6:30 pm at the REC Center.

PCDC Special Election Results

The special PCDC election for a new Chair and Vice Chair was held at the monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 5. PCDC members unanimously elected Kathleen White as Chair and Mike Hasty as Vice Chair.  Kathleen has officially ended her position as PCDC Secretary and a new Secretary will be elected at the next PCDC meeting on September 2. A big thanks to the Nominating Committee (Tom Ford, Suzanne Grant, Mike Mudd, and Del Price) for initiating the search for the new Chairs and continuing over the next month as they seek replacement Secretary

Mark Warner and Beth Macy Election

As we approach the November election, Trump’s overall approval rating in July was between 33% and 37%, depending on the poll. Pew Research had him at 34%. Even if he was up to 39% approval on the average, these are abysmal numbers for any President going into the Mid-Terms. But these are not normal times; as we’ve seen and heard, Trump and his loyalists will do anything to stay in power.  And now with the Don(ald)’s personal Consigliere Todd Blanche confirmed as Attorney General, all bets are off for the kind of meddling the Republicans could attempt before, during, and after the Mid-Terms. Voting Blue No Matter Who is critical to maintain the United States as a Democracy with proper checks and balances. Let’s do this and fire Ben Cline!

There are several ways Democrats can get involved prior to the November election; one does not need to be a PCDC member to participate.

1. Canvassing: Canvass for the Warner/Macy ticket, or Ana Maria Mendez for District 5 School Board.  If you are interested in canvassing, please contact either Skip Halpern (skiphalpern@outlook.com) or Mike Mudd (mikemudd777@gmail.com) and indicate the Saturday or Sunday in September and/or October you are available, and if you wish to canvass for Warner/Macy or Ana Maria.

2. Volunteer in our tent during early voting: Volunteers will be needed for the PCDC tent during early voting, which begins September 18 and ends on October 31.The last two Saturdays in October are particularly important (October 24 and 31). Early voting for Page County occurs at the County Administrator’s building, 103 S. Court Street. If you are available and interested in representing Democrats during early voting, please contact Mike Mudd.

3. Staffing the PCDC HQ on Saturdays: The PCDC office is in the heart of downtown Luray, near Town Hall, Main Street Flavors ice cream, Saga Meadery, and the New Page Movie Theater. This is a very visible space with a lot of pedestrian traffic, particularly in the summer and fall. HQ will be open on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm, the same time as the Farmer’s Market in the gravel lot next door, until late October. Local folks stop in as well as tourists from all over the country who are pleased Democrats have a presence in such a red region. If you are available to staff the HQ, please contact Pat Petralia (pjp7mail@gmail.com).

Yard Signs for Warner/Macy Now Available
Stop by the PCDC HQ on Saturday morning, 9 am to 1 pm, to pick up your yard sign and frame!  Or please reach out any member of PCDC to make arrangements to have a yard sign brought to you.

County Fair Volunteers Needed

The popular Page County Fair is occurring Monday, August 24 to Saturday, August 29. Once again, PCDC will have a booth in the vendor hall. Volunteers for staffing the booth are needed; at least two volunteers will be assigned to one of two slots: 6 to 8 pm, or 8 to 10 pm.
If you are interested in showing fair attendees that yes, there are Democrats in Page County, please contact Mike Mudd and specify your preferred day and time slot.

Downtown Cookout This Saturday!

PCDC’s August social event will be held in the gravel lot in downtown Luray on Saturday, August 15, 1:00 to 3:00 pm, after the Farmer’s Market. FREE burgers, hot dogs (including veggie dogs), watermelon, and water. Music! Bring your pet!

Join us for a traditional American summer cookout; anyone and everyone is invited. And if you missed the Page County Animal Shelter fundraiser at Main Street Flavors last month, feel free to bring bags or cans of cat or dog food as a contribution.
