PCDC Spring Fundraiser a Smashing Success
PCDC’s Spring Fundraiser on Saturday, May 23, was enjoyed by all, despite the holiday weekend and unsettled weather. Invited keynote speakers were CD11 Congressional Representative James Walkinshaw, CD6 Candidate Beth Macy, former Federal Prosecutor Glenn Kirshner, and Senior VP of Valley Health Dr. Jeffrey Feit. All speakers gave encouraging presentations and stressed the importance of this November’s Mid Term elections; quite possibly the most important election in our lifetimes.
The Daily-News Record provides a comprehensive overview of the event.
The fundraiser resulted in a net gain of approximately $7,500, but as of this writing information is still coming in.
But it wasn’t all business. The Hasty Brothers provided an entertaining musical set list and well known Page County comedian and co-owner of Porch+Vine Tony Villa hosted an auction that included many generously donated gifts.
Congressional Map Struck Down by VA Supreme Court
On Friday, May 8, the new Virginia Congressional District map, in which the citizens voted in favor of by a narrow margin on April 21, was struck down by the state Supreme Court due to a technicality. This nullified all votes cast in Virginia. Needless to say, PCDC and Democrats across the state and country are disappointed and infuriated, particularly since the new map was put up for a statewide vote, as California’s new map was last year. Meanwhile, under orders from the Commander in Chief, red states continue to redraw their maps, behind closed doors, without putting their new maps up for statewide votes: Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana…
The sentiment of Democrats over this red state bias by SCOTUS is best summed up by podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen in this video.
All attention is now turned to the CD6 Primary election, which will be on Tuesday, August 4 (click here for information). As of this writing, the only Democrat running in the Primary is Beth Macy, as both Pete Barlow and Ken Mitchell have ended their campaigns and endorsed Macy. Frustration and anger towards Trump and his policies, which have resulted in an unnecessary war against Iran, skyrocketing gas prices, continued tax breaks for billionaires, slashed health care, high grocery prices due to tariffs, and now a slush fund to compensate January 6 insurrectionists, should be enough to send Ben Cline packing for permanent retirement. PCDC will do everything we can to get the vote out come November.

Vote YES on New Virginia Congressional Map
To STOP the Trump regime’s actions of lawlessness and move towards fascism, VOTE ‘Yes’ on Redistricting as this will: 1) eliminate Ben Cline by redistricting him automatically out of existence from Page County;
2) stop Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, by ending his Republican majority;
3) put the brakes on Trump and his fascist agenda;
4) hold Trump and his regime ACCOUNTABLE for their illegal actions. This may be the last opportunity we have to use our vote as citizens as Trump and his supporters are doing everything to Nationalize Elections with only Republicans in control.
Trump started this fight by calling for redistricting in red states (Texas, North Carolina, Missouri, and Ohio, with Florida and Utah likely in the near future) and we must finish this fight by using the power of our vote to fight fire with fire. Like California, but unlike the aforementioned red states, all citizens of Virginia have an opportunity to vote on the new map. Democracy in action.
Early voting on the new map begins on Friday, March 6, at the Page County Admin Building (across the street from the courthouse), 103 South Court Street in Luray. You can vote YES until April 21, the final day for voting. For more information about the new maps, Go Here: https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/redistricting-passes-virginia-house-feb-10-2026 to watch a WTVR clip.
Finally, please consider a donation to Rural GroundGame for their ongoing efforts to reach rural voters of all stripes. Rural GroundGame needs to raise $20,000 to fund their dialer and fund numerous text banks to encourage Virginians to vote YES. Go here : Rural GroundGame – State Account — Donate via ActBlue

Page County’s Tax Reassessment Issue
As all Page County residents are painfully aware, the newest tax reassessment letters have been delivered. The dramatic increases in assessed values of property seem to utterly defy logic. The critical factor responsible for this increase is the explosive growth of the Short-Term Rental (STR) market in Page County.
A large number of these STRs are not owned or operated by locals – or even individual people. Wealthy buyers and outside commercial operations often purchase multiple units in our backyard and directly compete with our local STR entrepreneurs. As usual in this era of “Epstein Island,” breaks to the wealthy equate to additional local tax burdens on the lower classes. Page County residents are encouraged to make our voices heard about this outrageous development;
