To All Page County Democrats,
It’s natural to feel fearful and anxious about what’s happening around us and the threats to our democracy. However, we have the power and responsibility to stop the dangers posed by MAGA Republicans, the spread of misinformation, the erosion of our personal rights, and the potential loss of our right to vote.

Currently, a slim one-vote Republican majority in the US House of Representatives is enabling this chaos, but we can change that. Losing this election could lead to worsening conditions, as we’re already seeing:

– Women’s reproductive rights and bodily autonomy are under attack.

– Our communities are regressing, with school names reverting to Confederate heroes.

– Books are being banned, science education is being limited in public schools, and creationism is being forced into the curriculum.

– Transgender students are facing increased restrictions in schools.

– MAGA Republicans threatening to imprison and deport people.

– Gerrymandering is stripping marginalized groups of their voting power.

It’s not hard to imagine women losing the right to vote under a Trump regime. Who would we turn to then? A corrupted Supreme Court? A Justice Department filled with MAGA loyalists? A MAGA led Congress? How can we vote them out if our voting rights are taken away?

We can win this election. Despite Trump’s numerous criminal charges, he remains competitive, but questioning Republicans are turning away from him and his followers. While people may have concerns with Biden, his administration has delivered results for Americans. His staffers have remained in their positions and haven’t faced indictments or jail, unlike those in Trump’s orbit. Biden paints a positive vision of a democratic future, restoring rights rather than taking them away.

Tim Kaine has a solid track record, positive name recognition, funding, and a motivated team to win. Ken Mitchell, the CD 6 Congressional candidate, is extremely qualified and appealing to questioning Republicans, which is critical for overcoming the numbers if he only appeals to Democrats. His victory would change the majority in the House, making it essential to unseat far-right MAGA Republican Ben Cline.

The mission of the PCDC to get Democrats elected has never been more important or consequential than in this year’s election. You have a choice: sit on the sidelines and watch things deteriorate, or get involved and help us win this election.

There are only six months left to make a difference. Please join us at the PCDC and support our mission to elect Democratic candidates.

INTER COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEES WORKING TOGETHER:
About six weeks ago, the PCDC hosted a meeting with neighboring Democratic committees from Harrisonburg, Shenandoah, Winchester, Clarke, and Warren Counties. The aim was to develop a unified strategy, coordinate efforts, and share resources where possible. The goal is to create common campaign programs for all 22 Counties and Towns in CD 6 to boost awareness of our Democratic candidates.

Since then, we have shared graphics and other resources, and held further discussions to coordinate our efforts. These activities are laying the groundwork for successfully rolling out our programs in the coming weeks.

RURAL RETREAT RECAP:
As PCDC Chair, I attended the Rural Retreat held at Natural Bridge the past week. It was well attended and gave me the opportunity to meet many of the other representatives around CD 6 that will help us win this election. A couple of take aways is how we must focus our communications around values to connect with voters and how Democrats are here to make communities thrive.

DELEGATE CAUCUS:
Bette Schmidt and Miles Morimoto will represent the PCDC as delegates in Lexington this Saturday, May 18.
